My Labour weekend

Kia Ora, welcome back to my blog.

I'm going to share some of my Labour weekend news with you.

I was busy with my family helping to tidy the garage and chop down a tree. It was good for me to get out and help trim the branches of the tree and load them into the trailer after I  had trimmed the small branches of the tree.

I liked getting more sleep than usual and when I worked so hard on helping tidy stuff it was good to get a break.at times i was tired and bored, but I achieved some good things helping my family.   I hope you can see it was a long weekend for me.

I learnt how to trim branches.

Thank you guys for reading this post. Don't forget to leave a comment and some feedback for my learning. I hope you guys have an amazing week. Bye.

  • Petri dishes ( 2x .)
  • Paper towels ( 2x.)
  • Marker, vivid pen.

  1. Gather all Equipment.
  2. Put on your safety glasses.
  3. Using the marker pen, write the name of the condition on the Petri dish. DRY, WATER,  SALTWATER, SUGAR WATER.
  4.  Weigh the Gummy Bear and write the weight on the Petri Dish.
  5. Writhe your name on the paper towel.
  6. Measure 40ml of the solution and pour into the Petri dish

Making Sherbet

 Aim:

I want to find out how to make sherbet.

Research:

Method:

Equipment:

Icing sugar and Raro
  • Cup ( or any other sort of container)
  • Citric Acid or Tartaric Acid
  • Baking powder
  • Popsicle stick for mixing
  • Teaspoon

Instructions:

  1. Get all of your equipment ready.
  2. Add one teaspoon of sugar/raro to the cup.
  3. Add half a teaspoon of acid to the cup.
  4. Add half a teaspoon of baking powder to the cup.
  5. Mix with the stick.
  6. Taste the sherbet, and adjust the flavour.

Results:
There was no reaction in the cup.
The powder dissolved in my mouth and then it fizzed up in my mouth.

The scientific word for fizzing is effervescence.

Discussion:
Why did it foam up in your mouth?
It foamed up in my mouth because of the chemical reaction called carbon dioxide (gas)

What is an Acid and a Base

 Names of Acid's:

Hydrochloric Acid

Sulfuric Acid

Nitric Acid

Formulae of Acids

HCL

H2SO4

HNO3

Where do you find Acid:

Plaque Acid on your teeth

Stomach Acid is Hydrochloric Acid

Battery Acid is Sulfiric Acid

Lemons and Oranges have Citric Acid

Vinegar Contains Acetic Acid

Bee-Stings have Formic Acid

Coca-Cola has Carbonic Acid

What is Acid:

An Acid contains Hydrogen atoms that can break off to react with a substance.

Litums Colours:

Litmus paper changes to colour red.

An acid is a liquid that has a Hydrogen H atom that can react

For example:

  • Nitric Acid                   HNO3
  • Sulfiric Acid                H2SO4
  • Hydrochloric Acid       HCL

A base is the opposite of an acid and has OH (Hydroxide) that can react.

When an acid and base react they NEUTRALISE each other.

Red Cabbage Indicator

 Aim:

I want to find out how to tell if something is an acid.

Method:

Equipment:

  • Beaker
  • Red Cabbage
  • Hot water
  • Dropper
  • Test tubes
  • Different samples for testing

Instructions:

  1. Get your equipment ready
  2. Rip the cabbage into small pieces and put them into the beaker
  3. Add about 100mL of hot water
  4. Add some of the juice to a test tube and add a few drops of Hydrochloric Acid and see what happens
  5. In another test tube add some juice and a few drops of Hydroxide Acid and see what happens
  6. You do the same but in the different test tube and add Hydrochloric and Hydroxide Acid and see the results.

My presentation of the Katipo spider

Kia Ora guys and welcome to another blog post of mine. For today's post I will be sharing a presentation of the Katipo spider.

This week my class has been learning about this book with a bunch of cool animal facts. In this hurumanu we have been learning about native flora and fauna. Flora and fauna stands for flowers and animals.

For today's class we had been told a few different sites for a presentation. For my presentation I used Slides Carnival. Slides Carnival gives you different topics to choose from and I chose nature cause we had been doing native flora and fauna. My class mates had found all of these amazing sites and I think you would like them to. We had the options of Render forest, Canva, Biteable, Powtoon, Google Jamboard, Slides Carnival, Flipgrid and Pictochart.

Here is my presentation of the Katipo spider.

I enjoyed using a new site for my presentation. What I learnt was that New Zealand has a native poisonous spider called the Katipo.

I hope you guys learnt new things about the Katipo spider. Dont forget to leave a comment and some feed back for my learning. Bye guys hope you guys have an amazing week. Bye.
