My Labour weekend

Kia Ora, welcome back to my blog.

I'm going to share some of my Labour weekend news with you.

I was busy with my family helping to tidy the garage and chop down a tree. It was good for me to get out and help trim the branches of the tree and load them into the trailer after I  had trimmed the small branches of the tree.

I liked getting more sleep than usual and when I worked so hard on helping tidy stuff it was good to get a break.at times i was tired and bored, but I achieved some good things helping my family.   I hope you can see it was a long weekend for me.

I learnt how to trim branches.

Thank you guys for reading this post. Don't forget to leave a comment and some feedback for my learning. I hope you guys have an amazing week. Bye.

Making Sherbet

 Aim:

I want to find out how to make sherbet.

Research:

Method:

Equipment:

Icing sugar and Raro
  • Cup ( or any other sort of container)
  • Citric Acid or Tartaric Acid
  • Baking powder
  • Popsicle stick for mixing
  • Teaspoon

Instructions:

  1. Get all of your equipment ready.
  2. Add one teaspoon of sugar/raro to the cup.
  3. Add half a teaspoon of acid to the cup.
  4. Add half a teaspoon of baking powder to the cup.
  5. Mix with the stick.

Results:
There was no reaction in the cup.
The powder dissolved in my mouth and then it fizzed up in my mouth.

The scientific word for fizzing is effervescence.

Discussion:
Why did it foam up in your mouth?
It foamed up in my mouth because of the chemical reaction called carbon dioxide (gas)

What is an Acid and a Base

 Names of Acid's:

Hydrochloric Acid

Sulfuric Acid

Nitric Acid

Formulae of Acids

HCL

H2SO4

HNO3

Where do you find Acid:

Plaque Acid on your teeth

Stomach Acid is Hydrochloric Acid

Battery Acid is Sulfiric Acid

Lemons and Oranges have Citric Acid

Vinegar Contains Acetic Acid

Bee-Stings have Formic Acid

Coca-Cola has Carbonic Acid

What is Acid:

An Acid contains Hydrogen atoms that can break off to react with a substance.

Litums Colours:

Litmus paper changes to colour red.

An acid is a liquid that has a Hydrogen H atom that can react

For example:

  • Nitric Acid                   HNO3
  • Sulfiric Acid                H2SO4
  • Hydrochloric Acid       HCL

A base is the opposite of an acid and has OH (Hydroxide) that can react.

When an acid and base react they NEUTRALISE each other.

My presentation of the Katipo spider

Kia Ora guys and welcome to another blog post of mine. For today's post I will be sharing a presentation of the Katipo spider.

This week my class has been learning about this book with a bunch of cool animal facts. In this hurumanu we have been learning about native flora and fauna. Flora and fauna stands for flowers and animals.

For today's class we had been told a few different sites for a presentation. For my presentation I used Slides Carnival. Slides Carnival gives you different topics to choose from and I chose nature cause we had been doing native flora and fauna. My class mates had found all of these amazing sites and I think you would like them to. We had the options of Render forest, Canva, Biteable, Powtoon, Google Jamboard, Slides Carnival, Flipgrid and Pictochart.

Here is my presentation of the Katipo spider.

I enjoyed using a new site for my presentation. What I learnt was that New Zealand has a native poisonous spider called the Katipo.

I hope you guys learnt new things about the Katipo spider. Dont forget to leave a comment and some feed back for my learning. Bye guys hope you guys have an amazing week. Bye.

Counting the beat: Learning the ukulele

Good day everyone, Welcome to today's post. For this post I will be sharing my learning about the ukulele.

As a class we started watching a video of ukulele's and the chords you can play with them the kind of music they can be used in.
We also watched our teachers presentation learning about the ukulele. We learnt about what parts and types of ukuleles there are.

Pats of the ukulele:

Some ukulele's have rosettes but  not all of them do. Someone told me it was because of the design.

There are many different types of ukuleles. Some are shaped differently than others and some sound differently. A ukulele is a miniature version of the guitar.

After we watched some videos we were ready to take it outside. We could be in groups with our friends or work alone.

Here are some of the videos my class watched.
Link one Link two Link three Link four    My class didn't watch the entire videos of all three but we did
watch them while we were in class. When we were outside that was our time
to watch the full videos.

Link four is a video where you can learn different chords and a few songs using the ukulele.

I really enjoyed learning the ukulele last. It was really fun and I really hope you guys enjoy learning the ukulele as much as I did.

I really hope you guys enjoyed this blog post of mine. Don't forget to leave a comment and some feedback for my learning. Bye guys have an awesome week. Bye.

Stomp Performances!!!

Welcome boys and girls to another blog post of mine. For today's post I will be sharing my stomp performance with you.

For this class we had to be in groups. I was in a group of two with myself and my friend Karlie. We have been practising this for a few days now cause every week we only have this class twice maybe once a week.

Stomp is music without any instruments. To perform this we had to use objects around us.

Here is my video. Hope you enjoy.

My performance isn't to long or to short.
As you can see Karlie and myself used one object and that is a stool. We also used our hands.
We did this to show others we can make music without instruments but with objects around us.

That's all for today guys. Thanks so much for reading this post. before you leave don't forget to leave a comment and some feedback for my learning. Bye guys have an awesome year.

Kate Sheppard

Hey girls and boys. Welcome to another blog.

For this post I will be sharing my work about Kate Sheppard.

Kate Is on the Aotearoa $10 note. She is famous because she got the right for women's rights. Kate Sheppard was born in England, Liverwood in 1847. She moved to NZ. In 1868 Kate got married to Walter Sheppard. In 1885 Kate had joined the WCTU short for Women's Christian Temperance Union. Kate had became passionate about women receiving the right to vote. At this time women weren't able to vote in any country at all.

Kate had travelled all over NZ, writing to newspapers, holding public meetings and talking to the members of Parliament. Kate's idea for women's rights was strong. Women were better suited for home concerns such as, looking after the children, cleaning the house and doing all of the chores while the men were at their jobs.

1893 Kate and her team collected signatures of nearly 32,000 women and men  to show how many people supported for their case. Kate and her team also had the prime minister John Balance support. This petition was 270 meters long! When it was presented to Parliament, it had unrolled across the Chamber of the house. The petition showed the members of Parliament just how many people had signed the petition.

The Premier, Richard Seddon was strongly opposed to women me receiving the right to vote. However he was out- voted. In 1893 Richard sent a message to Kate saying congratulations women now have the right to vote. Women voting became a new law on September 19th. Aotearoa was the first country to allow women to vote.

After Kate had achieved her goal of women voting Kate moved back to England the following year, along with her husband Walter Sheppard. After a few years Kate moved back to NZ and had helped organise the National council of women and campaigned for women to serve as members of Parliament.

Since her death, Kate had received many honours throughout NZ. Buildings, streets including neighbourhoods and throughout NZ are named after her.

Here is a link to my Kate Sheppard work Kate Sheppard work. Click here.

If you want to see her memorial it is in the centre of town.

The Kate Sheppard National Memorial, Oxford Terrace | Christchurch City Libraries

And that's all for today guys. I really hope you enjoyed this post. Dont forget to leave a comment and some feedback for my learning. Bye have a nice year.

Hey guys welcome back to my blog. For my post I will be talking about skittles and water.

Discussion:

  1. The colours of the skittles dissolved into the water that had changed the water. Dissolved means when you put a powder into water or anything than it'll become a solution.
  2. The colours had spread out. The colours were concentrated at diffused ( Moved) to area where there was no colour.
  3. the colours did not mix. The colours had different solubilities.

Lighting a Bunsen Burner

 Science:

  1. Get the equipment.
  2. Put safety glasses on.
  3. Put heat mat in the middle of the counter.
  4. Connect the gas hose to the gas tap.
  5. Turn the collar to close the air hole.
  6. Strike a match or light a lighter and hold it above the nozzle.
  7. Turn the gas tap on without having your arms crossed.
  8. Turn the collar to open the air hole.
  9. Close the air hole and turn off the gas tap.

After all the steps have been completed you should have had a flame that is orange or yellow. If you turn the nozzle you will get a small blue flame that is over 100 digress. The blue flame is the hottest flame out of all flames. The blue flame has the most oxygen than any other flame that causes this flame to be the hottest. The blue flame is 3,000 in Fahrenheit. Although the blue flame is barely visible it is still deadly. If you touch this flame you would possibly get 3 degree or 2 degree burns.

Once you have the orange, yellow flame hold a glass, plastic container on the tip of the flame and you will see that there will be black stuff on the container. This stuff is called sot. Sot is black, grey smoke from the flame. It is burned gas. If you do the same thing but to the blue flame you wont be able to see any sot. This is because it has burned all of the gas cause of how strong the blue flame is.

That's all for today's post. Hope you enjoyed this experiment and don't for get to stay safe and don't touch the blue flame nor the orange, yellow flame. Don't forget to leave a comment and some feedback for my learning. Thank you guys for reading today's post. Have a nice day. Bye.

My Sports Hero

Hey guys welcome back to my blog. Today's post is about my Sport hero.

My sports hero is Kobe Bryant because he is a Basketball star. Kobe has been playing basketball since 1978 all the way through 2016. The position he played was shooting guard. Kobe first started playing basketball at the age of 18 years old and in fact he was the first youngest man to play in the NBA( National Basketball Association.) Kobe retired basketball in 2015-16 because he had to get surgery on his torn cuff. He didn't want to retire but he knew it was time to let his dream go. He knew it was the right thing to do. He also said that if it hadn't been for his torn cuff he would still be playing Basketball. Kobe and his 13 year old daughter had gone on a helicopter ride and the pilot had flown it into the clouds and crashed the helicopter. The helicopter accident caused the pilot/Kobe and the thirteen year old to die. Kobe had died on the 26th of January 2020(last year.) Kobe was 41 years old when he had died. His thirteen year old's name had been Gianna Bryant. Kobe had been on the Los Angeles Lakers team.

I have always wanted to be a Basketball star. After I found out that Kobe Bryant had been a Basketball star at the age of 18 that's when I knew he was my hero. I now know that it is possible to become a star for basketball at a young age in the teens.

I chose Kobe Bryant as my hero because I look up to him. Kobe has been inspiring and had been kind to all his team mates. Kobe never let the team down and never hogged the ball. Kobe had made it possible to become an NBA star at the age of only 18.

Kobe has won four NBA all star MVP awards. Kobe had been on the Lakers team for 20 whole years. That is so long.
